It would have been the love story of
the awards season: supporting
actress Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o
and supporting actor Oscar-winner
Jared Leto.
But alas, it was not meant to be –
mostly because Nyong’o is rumored
to already be dating someone else.
Us Magazine reported the
Mexican-born Kenyan actress has
actually been secretly dating Somali-
born Canadian rapper K’Naan since
as far back as September.
A source told the magazine that 31-
year-old Nyong’o bonded with
K’Naan over similar interests after
meeting, saying “she loves his
humanitarianism” and that they are
“both passionate about African
issues.”
This is not the first time rumors
have swirled around Nyong’o and
the 36-year-old rapper, whose real
name is Keinan Abdi Warsame. The
duo was spotted quite cuddly in New
York a day after she won for best
support actress at the Academy
Awards for her role in “12 Years A
Slave.”
According to Us Magazine’s source,
the couple is taking things slowly
and the Yale-educated actress has
not met his two sons from his
marriage to ex-wife Dega Warsame.
Rumors surrounding Nyong’o’s
dating life were a whirlwind topic of
conversation and jokes throughout
the awards season, with rumors of a
romance blossoming between her
and Leto – especially after he called
her his “future ex-wife” during his
Independence Spirit Awards
acceptance speech earlier this
month.
While Nyong’o has yet to address
the reports about her rumored
relationship with K’Naan,
Hollywood’s current “It Girl” did
address the Leto rumors on “The
Ellen Show” last month.
“I thought Miley Cyrus broke us up,”
she joked. “You know, it’s crazy
cause when I read these rumors,
they’re so detailed that even I start
to question whether they’re true or
not.”
